A sure-fire way to increase your business profile is to submit your site to a web directory so that it will be listed under an appropriate category and will be found by people looking for a medical link. However, given the specialised nature of what you're selling, it's a mistake to feature it only in general web directories. People looking for health links are unlikely to waste their time trawling through the pages of a business directory or of the many general-purpose directories that are out there. Instead, they're more likely to target a medical directory because a search there will give much better results.

For these reasons, it's much better to submit a URL to a health directory because this will get visitors who are interested in what you have to offer. However, you need to choose an appropriate one before you add your URL. Some medical directories are aimed at healthcare professionals rather than consumers and may be more concerned with providing information and job opportunities. If you're selling products and services to consumers, this is not the type of website directory where you want to add a site. Instead, look for those that have a category into which your site fits neatly.
For the best results, ensure there are plenty of sites in each category and that the directory gets plenty of visitors. Many health directories will try to encourage a steady flow of repeat visitors by posting items to interest them - blogs, forums, information and news articles (like we do). A list of topical entries is a sign of good intent.
Some will offer a health link exchange service that may result in more prominently featured medical links. This is usually dependent on establishing a reciprocal link where your site and the directory have links to each other. There are advantages for both parties in this type of links exchange, since establishing health reciprocal links should result in increased traffic for both your site and the directory as well as a possible improvement in page rank on search engines if you work the partnership in the right way. Being associated with quality sites does also, of course, set you apart from the masses of junk sites out there.
