| PET WEB RESOURCES: |
 |
Selling pets and related products and services is a bit of a specialised business. Consequently, if you're selling through a website and want to raise its profile, it might be a mistake to feature it only on a general website directory or even a business directory. Not only may they not have categories that match your needs, they simply may have too many categories or ones that are too generic for your site to stand out. This may cause frustration to people looking for pet products, who may simply give up when faced with pages of obscure search results.
A better option may be to have your site listing featured in a specialist pets directory. This puts it among others that have a common purpose, meaning that pet lovers are more likely to look through a pet directory for their needs. This will have lots of related products and services arranged by category, meaning that a search is likely to bring up something useful and provide a pet link to what the visitor needs.
Why not get your resource listed here, we have plenty of pet people passing through:
DEFRA The UK government's executive agency primarily responsible for ensuring that farmed animals in Great Britain are healthy, disease-free and well looked after, and that risk to public health from animal disease is minimised.

The best directories of this type will also have lots of features that will keep pet lovers coming back on a regular basis. These features include blogs, forums, help and advice, news articles and other items of interest such as humorous stories that attract a regular following. An animal directory with this type of content is likely to have guaranteed traffic and is the type you should be aiming for.
Some directories have the added advantage of offering a link exchange service, enabling you to swap site references and benefit from increased traffic and, many assume, higher search engine rankings. However, be careful to choose a directory that has suitable categories. Some focus mainly on supplying animals of different types while others provide varying services, are regionalised or are very specific in their aims. Depending on what you offer, you may seek inclusion on a specialised cat directory or dog directory. These may also offer a dog link exchange service or similar so that you can establish even more relevant pet links to specialised directories and sites. i.e. there isn't much point in working a good link exchange between your parrot sales website and a dog food recipe website.
There are also instances of directories that have generalised animal content but provide an animal link to specialised sub-directories of varying kinds. This gives you the opportunity to have an entry in the main directory and then a second entry at a more specialised feline products directory reached via cat links. We don't offer that but such certainly gives you a better chance of being noticed if you can find a good directory providing it.
The main challenge is finding directories that offer the category you need or allow you to suggest one, have high levels of relevant traffic, are well-populated with sites and have sufficient attractions to ensure a regular flow of visitors. Creating a pets link from these directories should ensure your site achieves an adequate number of visitors.
Currently we only have this extra resource page beyond the insurance pages. It still gets good traffic and as a link exchange is not always necessary with, it may be worth your while getting in touch.
