Student Contents Insurance

Contents insurance is likely to be the last thing on any students mind who is about to start University. However with young people between the ages of 18-24 three times more likely to be the victim of theft than any other age group, it's wise to protect your property if you are in halls of residence or rented accomodation, especially when you consider how valuable your laptop or computer is to your studies. On top of this items such as phones, tv's, tablets, mp3 players and cameras can quickly add up to large sums of money which you may not be able to afford to replace.

Student content insurance works in the same way as normal home contents insurance and covers you against theft, fire, vandalism, storm, flood and burst pipes. Some policies may or may not include cover for other items such as bicycles and musical instruments so double check the details before buying a policy. You may also need to declare any high value items such as laptops of tv's otherwise you may invalidate the policy and the ability to claim for these items should they be stolen or damaged.

Insurers are able to offer excellent offers to students who often do not have large sums available to spend on insurance. To balance these costs though, your policy may only cover your poessesions during term time, so if you stick around for the holidays you may not be covered during these periods. If you are in shared accomodation you could be the victim of a 'walk-in theft' and therefore you may need to check whether the policy covers this or is additional option.
