14/09/2010 i received a good quote from them as per the information they asked for, paid my deposit and sent off the documents to them, i received a letter a few days later informing me that my premium was going up by almost 2grand coz a discrepancy, all the info was the same on my licence as i had put in online, they are trying to blame confused.com and i have since cancelled my policy and have been waiting almost 60days from my refund, when they orginally stated this would only take 30! i email them every day and all they say is we assure you this is being dealt with!
14/09/2010 I was insured with ecar for only one month as from april to may and then i cancelled the policy sent my certificate back and paid over £600 to them and I am still waiting my refund, i have emailed them and phoned them over the past 3 months, and now i have received an email yesterday saying i am not entitled to any refund. So it has cost me 600 for one months insurance !!! What can I do any suggestions
12/09/2010 Absolutely shocking, changed my car details on 23/6/2010, still waiting now for my refund, a massive pile of pants!! shant use them ever again
10/09/2010 Another very unsatisfied customer here, I have just cancelled my policy with them as a result of the APPALLING customer service I've received in the last week. They have failed to resolve a number of queries and complaints I have raised to them and handled the whole situation very badly. I am in the process of raising a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman and will be demanding they refund the extortionate £75 cancellation fee they believe they are entitled to charge.
05/09/2010 They lure you to their scam by giving you the cheapest price for your car insurance... Then they send you a package with your insurance policy as well as a 'prepaid envelop' enclosed in the package! They instruct you to simply enclose the proof of your 'No Claim Discound' in the prepaid envelop so that they distract you from sending your document by 'recorded mail'! Later they send you a letter denying they have ever received your documents and they immediately cancel your policy! They claim that they will charge you £75.00 for administration fee and refunf the rest of your money but even that will never take place! No one will help you later either, your bank etc
23/08/2010 They operate a plan so that once you have paid your initial deposit (non-returnable) and your first monthly instalment, your insurance is cancelled by them - this is done not by email but by letter arriving five days later which means you probably drove without insurance cover. There is no good reason for this but they hide behind asking for copy licence, copy counterpart licence etc not all at once you understand but over a period while they await taking your first DD instalment. Then of course it is too late. You won't get a penny back.
16/08/2010 As most people on here I have experienced the same,My policy was cancelled with out being informed and i was driving for 11 days without insurance.they said they did not have prof of no claims which they did have. when asked to reinstate i was told i had to renew policy. I didnt do this and asked for a refund, this was in april,it is now the 15th of aug and i recieved it today after emailing daily.I paid 360 pounds out and have received 190 back so for the 11days i was insured I have veen charged 170 pounds!!!! how are they allowed to continue?? I then took out asda on line and once again they done the same thing, It turns out that it is run by the same company and asda themselves are nothing to do with that company. .
15/08/2010 Ecar Insurance are currently insuring me after 3 years of driving a mobility car. All they asked was that i send in proof of NCD in the form of a letter from Royal Sun Alliance withing 23 days from the start of my PAYG policy, which i did through scanned email. I also done the same with my drivers license. Then i recieved a prompt reply with confirmation of reciept in my email within 6 hours. No hassles, great communication and great to deal with. I can't see how or why others have had problems. I'd rate them 10/10 AND i got a much better deal than Aviva who are just about the only other company that will accept NCD earnt through RSA Motability insurance.
11/08/2010 Im similar to most complaints,I took out car insurance on 11-4-2010,i paid 89 pounds up front, they asked for proof of NCD+LICENCE.which I did, twice.they sent email to confirm the had recieved my licence details.but no proof of NCD?.that was with my licence details.+resent.they took 45:20 in may.then cancelled my policy may?.no letter of cancellation.got pulled over by police on M57 motorway as im not insured?.what a shock.im a bus/coach driver and know look forward to never working again.
01/08/2010 i too like the rest of you have had nothing but problems with ecar they cancelled my policy in may due to driving documents not being recieved blah blah blah. i have been in touch with the ombudsman and have still not heard anything. i paid a deposit of 300 pound and a first instalment of 170 my insurance was cancelled within two week of setting up the policy this is a joke ive paid 470 to be insured for less than 2weeks i would stay well clear of this company.
23/07/2010 I took out a policy with Evan paid my premuim in full. The policy was full comp with protected NCD, I was under the impression this policy covered me to drive other vehicles 3rd party. This was not the case as I found out when the police pulled me over while driving my partners car to drop off my own vehicles keys at our local garage. I was charged with driving without insurance and my partners car was impounded. To add to this I then received a letter stating my NCD was not valid and asking for a further £600. I cancelled my policy and I am still waitign for a refund over 3 months later. So far the 1 month I was covered by Evan has cost me nearly £1500 and 6 points on my driving license.
10/06/2010 Took out month by month insurance with ecar until I receive my new car. Everything fine seemed like a good deal. Sent in no claims drivers licenses etc. Then I get an email saying that my partners date of birth does not correspond to the drivers license. It is wrong I accept that shee is actually 3 years older. The term of residency is correct however. They have cut my insurance period down to a week short of the first month and want me to pay an extra £35 a month premium with a rider that if I dont I will have problems insuring elsewhere. I feel conned. I certainly wont be using them again.
01/06/2010 The worst car insurers I have ever dealt with! They cancelled my insurance without my knowledge and then informed me a week later that it had been cancelled.I had actually been driving my car for a week completely unaware that 1 had no insurance.Have contacted the financial ombudsman and am still waiting for a refund!
25/05/2010 Think twice before you insure with ecar! My experience of them is typical to the others posted here so I wont bore you with it, other than to advise you to stay away, unless you want to risk the frustration of dealing with this awful company when something goes wrong
18/05/2010 I cannot believe in this day and age companies like ecar can survive on how they operate. I cancelled my car policy in mid february and i am still waiting 90 days later for my refund!!(has anybody been waiting longer?)
16/04/2010 I received a letter from ecar Insurance saying they had cancelled my Car Insurance by my request, which I hadnt.I contacted them via email they advised:'I can confirm that we cancelled your policy on 08/04/2010 as we did not receive proof of a closed claim for 14/03/2007. Our Underwriters requested this on 24/02/2010. Once your policy has been cancelled it can not be reistated. If you need insurance you will now need to take a new policy online'. I never received a letter and have no idea what they are on about. It has left me with no insurance cover. Aviva are the Under writers.Trying to get insurance cover is a nightmare, RAC refused me today as they are underwritten by Aviva, who have a query against me.I have never claimed in my life!
16/04/2010 I had car insurance with ecar in 2008 & 2009 all appeared ok-. Then 2010 they ask for my driving licence, scanned and sent. I paid, in full, for my insurance in Feb. On 13.04.10 I received a letter, telling me I had cancelled my insurance with them. Which I did not. This left me uninsured. I emailed them numerous times over a period of 24 hours, eventually received an email, saying they had cancelled my insurance for a supposed 'undisclosed claim'. No idea what they are talking about. I have contacted the Ombudsman and the police about this company. Who I believe are are not reputable
07/04/2010 i would strongly advise any on e about using this company. i cancelled my car insurance with this company after 3 days on the 18th feb. 2010 and to this day 7th april have still not received my refund. no replys to my emails.
31/03/2010 I was insured with ecar in 2008 i paid fully comp insurance on my micra then had an accident witch was my fault, i took the blame paid my exses then they took my car my paper work and told me that was sorted, now March 2010 i get a letter from some solicitors saying i owe them £2,070.53 because they say e car never paid for the opposite sides hired car and damage, i cant get hold of e car, what do i do
27/03/2010 I recently insured my van with e-van I would not recommend this company to anyone they take your money and then try to get more money by asking for separate no claims discounts for car and van policies, then try to reduce your no claims discount to Zero to impose extra charges. When I cancelled the policy within the 14 days cooling off period they now tell me I will be charged a cancellation fee.I intend to complain to the Financial Ombudsman about this company
26/03/2010 After two previous policies with them (still current) we needed a third. For the first time they requested copies of our driving licences. These were scanned and sent. Then the fun started. No confirmation email came through. Thirteen emails over the next few days elicited (finally) a response that I had sent them from the ‘wrong’ email. Policy cancelled. Black mark against us and a £75 cancellation fee. They claim emails not received, sent from ‘wrong’ email address, data protection act blah blah.
25/03/2010 I cancelled my car insurance which I had through ecar insurance and am still waiting for my refund 11 weeks later. I wrote to them by recorded delivery and when I contacted them via email to see what was happening with my refund I was told they had not received my letter of cancellation, only my returned insurance certificate - funny as they were both in the same envelope! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY I have wrote a complaint letter to the Financial Ombudsman.
19/03/2010 I have recently bought my 1st car and insured it with ecar. I have just been informed by them that they are going to cancel my policy in the next 10 days because I didn't tell them there was a claim against this vehicle in November 2008! I have only been the registered owner of this car since January 2010 so whatever has happened to it in the past is nothing to do with me! I have sent e-mails with high importance and had no response. The massively expensive phone line is saying that calls are barred!!! Help!
11/03/2010 This company is a fraud complain to the ombudsman i have. They accused me of insuring my car for my son, its pink, then upped my premiums to over £1700, their reason for this is that the payments were coming out of my sons account. I cancelled immediately and they had the nerve to charge me £75 cancellation. I was not told this until 32 days later, they said i would get a refund.
04/03/2010 This is the worst level of customer service I have ever experienced. The phone lines are an outrageous price. They lost my claim paperwork and didn't get back to the third party involved in my accident so they have taken me to court! This has been going on for 12 months! I have been sent from pillar to post because ecar outsource their claims handlers -'Oh you need to call this number.. Oh you need to email so and so..' The general email address means no-one will take ownership of anything you ask them to do, including making complaints. I WOULD RATHER PAY TWICE MY PREMIUM TO GO ELSEWHERE.
04/03/2010 I am having problems as i was hit last week it then turns out that the dates on my policy for two other accidents i had appear to be wrong .E car have said its not there fault will send claim to under writes who will take 10 days to see if my calm is invalide. No pay out / no insurance. I can not beleave it. They where aware of the accidents. And yes i put in the correct dates. Stay well clear of e car
03/03/2010 I too have experienced the sam problems as many of the above. Claims that they had not received my NCB documents, when they blatantly had. i am still awaiting a refund despite it now being over 30 days since I returned my documents.
23/02/2010 i took out car insurace via e car part of sourthern rock i have recieved letters theretaening to cancel my poily which i found rude and curt if they didnt recieve my ncd proff and driver licence i sent drivers licence via special delivery took them 4 days to send confirmation email i faxed and post my proff of ncd which they claim to not have recieved i recived a letter by recorded delivery on the 16th of febuary stating my poilicy had been cancelled on the 12th wtf? 4 days no insurance now going through financial ombusman to get this sorted so left without transport then to my horrer i saw they took a payment for car insurance on the 21st of febuary which they are not providing after emailing them i got yet another short curt emailng avoid
22/02/2010 my problems started when ecarinsurance asked me to pay £35 on top of my premium in regards to a diffence on my NCD,they said that I should log in to my account and made the payment oterwise policy wiil be cancell, try many times to make the payment over the internet but their system simply would no let me do it ,contacted them well in advance to get help with payment but they just did ignore my e mails;on the 19-02-10 received a letter stating that under my instructions my policy was cancel on 15-02-10.I have email them daily since and still waiting to be contacted...reading all this previos coments I am getting ready for a long wait..payd them £677 a year up front for my policy .praying to get my money back...my worst mistake
18/02/2010 Awful company. I was hit from behind and had a fault claim put on my policy. I had no dealing with ecar to get it removed as they did not reply to my emails. I had to have their Claims department Eldon give verbal confirmation of NCB to my new insurer. Their staff are rude and sarcastic and when you call their £1 a min line the options just repeat themselves when you hit a number!
18/02/2010 Gave me seven days from date of letter to get written proof of NCB to them, but I didn't receive the letter until there were just 2 days to go. Went to phone them immediately to see if they'd hold off, but was told by recorded announcement calls cost £1 per minute. WTF? How are these scammer cowboys legally allowed to operate? Allegedly regulated by the FSA, but not much regulation going on here by the look of it.
03/02/2010 I have never had dealings with such a bad company. For the last week i have been trying to get an upto date copy of my policy from Evan, they keep saying print it from the website but that copy is 2 months out of date. They agree my payment has been recived and there is a technical problem, this has been going on since i found out nearly a week ago. They keep say don't worry you are insured, but when i check on ASKMID website it says my van is not insured. So i have not been abled to use my van for work as im not sure if i am covered if i have an accident. Also i need to tax my van too. I have now given up with them cancelled my policy lost my money and gone with a proper company. I would not recomend this company to my worst enemy.
30/01/2010 By far the worst insurance company I have ever encountered. I would never renew with them again. Cheap quote given, but the trouble starts when this company denies receiving proof of your NCD, even when you've emailed it to them. They cancel your policy too without notice and charge £75 as well. Go somewhere more reputable, thats my advice!
28/01/2010 Has anyone actually had their money refunded? If so, how long did it take? I've been waiting 31 days for my money and still no sign of it.
26/01/2010 I paid £325 for van insurance did all they required of me and i have no insurance and fat chance of getting my money back. the lie cheat their way through my money.
12/01/2010 I bought eVan insurance 3 months ago. I cancelled within a week and I'm still waiting for a refund despite their 14 day cooling off period. I'm now filing in County Court to recover the premium. Yes it would be easier to let it go, but I'm doing it for the principle. Learn from my mistake and the mistake made by others here. Buy insurance from a reputable company. I've never had so much trouble over something that is supposed to be regulated and safe.
07/01/2010 It seemed too good to be true, we were given a quote of £325 for comprehensive van insurance which included breakdown cover and European cover. We sent documents as requested for driving licence and no claims bonus, the driving licence was validated but we're now receiving threatening emails claiming we haven't sent our no claims bonus proof, and our insurance will be cancelled on Tuesday 12th January if not sent and validated by then. We sent the document again they don't seem to be validating it. They do not respond to emails, and if they cancel our insurance they take our £75 cancellation fee plus the cover we've used and means we'd either be turned down by other insurance companies or given a higher premium. We are not well off, we cannot afford this!!! This is fraudulent, and why they are still trading I don't know. We have done everything right!!!! Do not make the same mistake we did, just don't deal with them!!! We'll be taking this matter a lot further!!! Search on the internet and read about all the other bad experiences good people have had with this company, wish we had!!!!
15/12/2009 I had my insurance canceled by eBikeInsurance because they claim "the Internet server" (not their systems) lost the email I sent with my license scans. I am creating a blog to document everything that is wrong with this company: eFail.wordpress.com
07/12/2009 My insurance was cancelled with regards to a no claims mishap I faxed and sent a letter to Evan insurance saying that I wish to change the insurance and not use a no claims discount. I recieved conformation saying this was all ok and then Evan without me knowing cancelled the insurance I spent all weekend and half of Monday trying to rectify the problem. They answered one email from many I sent 2 complaints regarding the situation and the same lady dealt with all the emails including the complaints. You would think someone seperate would look into my situation. I then spent around £18 on a £1 per minute phone call to sort thing out. They accepted that it was Evans fault for cancellation and then looked for as many excuses as they could
24/11/2009 i have canceled with ecar on the 5 of october and have had to eccept the £75 cancelation fee,as of yet not recieved any refund,i have been told i have to wait 30 days untill any refund will be given.i would advise anyone to give this company a wide birth and find insuramce elsewhere
08/11/2009 ecar insurance are by far the worse company i have dealt with. I took out insurance and quickly received the letters asking for NCD proof and driving licence. I emailed them to say I was waiting for the proof from my previous insurer. No joy, just more threatening letters telling me they would cancel my insurance. I finally managed to email the documents to them before the due date and heard nothing back. Then I got a recorded delivery letter stating my insurance had been cancelled 3 days earlier because I hadn't sent my documents. I contacted them and told them I had sent them but they weren't interested and hung up on me. They let me unknowingly drive without insurance through no fault of my own. They are a disgrace, DONT USE THEM
08/10/2009 Positive comments are rare so one that I think applies to this company is the huge sense of relief you get when you no longer have to deal with them. Without doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with - unless you have masochistic tendencies then you should avoid this company at all costs
02/10/2009 It's easy to get a quote and buy the insurance online, including changing details if needed. They request NCD proof and DL/counterpart in 3 weeks max, but that can be sorted out without a fuss. Main problem in expensive calls to talk to their staff, but they want you to contact them via email. Ive got a local number using say no to 0870, so I dont need to pay £1 per minute if I need to call them. I can not say its the best insurance company around, but still much better and cheaper than my previous insurer, Norwich Union/Aviva. After sorting out your documents - took me 15 minutes, it's good since I need to switch drivers/vehicles every 2 months, and I can do it anytime using their website. It's good for me, probably not for most customers.
01/10/2009 I made the mistake of not doing a search to read reviews about ecar insurance. It started with requesting copies of the driving licence, then evidence if No claims bonuses and also forms to allow them to access information from DVLA or any other agency they see fit (as if I would allow that !!) If there had been any information in the T7C that this nonsence would be ongoing then I would never have gone with this crowd. Sadly I paid a year up front and I will not be held hostage to paying £75 to cancel. This nis one that I will definately not be renewing with. I wish I had stayed with Direct Line.
29/08/2009 Beware e car insurance. It's easy enough to get a quote but once you've paid the trouble starts. Threatening letters arrive demanding you send them copies of your licence, counterpart (for all named drivers) within 5 days plus your NCD certificate or a £75 fee and cancellation of your policy. OK, they need to be careful of people trying to defraud them but they make the mistake of assuming everyone is a conman and treat you likewise. The claim number is £1 a minute and none of the threatening documentation makes any reference to European cover which they claim to provide 365 days' cover. I won't be renewing. A terrible mistake leaving my previous insurer. Can't cancel as fees extortionate. Regrets...
01/11/2008 Was recommended this company by a friend at work so was disappointed to see that they did not accept no claims bonus build up as an additional driver elsewhere. Think all these gimmicks are suspect now as they only seem to apply to the company that is offering them. eCar's accelerated no claims bonus scheme for example will probably not be recognised if you switch insurers. I didn't bother getting a quote as I figured I'd be better off trying somewhere that did recognise my years of safe driving.
21/10/2008 I found the picture of a car bursting through a laptop monitor on the front page of eCar's website a bit distracting, but other than that the site is easy to navigate, though it's a bit clunky. It also asks for the specific time you'd like your cover to start, which I've never seen before. In the end the quote they gave me wasn't at all competitive, I've had quotes for over a hundred pounds less than eCarInsurance were able to offer me. Their cover did include windscreen and legal expenses, but still didn't seem like a good deal.
07/06/2008 This is one of the only sites I have found which offers cover on a month-by-month basis rather than as an annual policy, which was ideal for me as I was only moving back to the UK for 3-6 months. It seemed quite expensive but was far cheaper than paying for a full year that wasn't needed as cancellation fees always end up being huge! The site was also one of the easiest I have ever filled in, broken down into very small manageable chunks of info and a really helpful FAQ page. To be honest it is hard to fault them in their concept and design, if anything they could just do with being slightly cheaper!
04/06/2008 I found this to be a really useful website. If you're looking for insurance to cover odd periods (pay as you go or for short fixed periods) like I am, its well laid out and easy to find the type of policy to fit my needs. Form to complete to obtain a quote is a bit complex but that is to be expected given the nature of the product.
