Overview: Proclaiming itself as a 'unique way' to shop for insurance, Quotezone is actually another entrant in the comparison website market. It does put a lot of stress on the fact that it obtains quotations from a variety of insurers and brokers, and that different brokers do not necessarily charge the same price for identical insurance cover.

Depending on which bit of the website we were looking at whilst checking it out, it has been used by over half a million people or over one million motorists ... which doesn't seem to make much sense. Similarly, for car insurance, it compares prices from 40 ... 50 or even 80 companies. Such a lack of clarity and attention to detail doesn't inspire too much confidence.

Emphasis is placed on the business being totally independent and therefore not influenced by any particular provider. The site also offers the usual advantages of filling in one form to get a multitude of quotes and then linking to a provider's website to complete the transaction.

On offer are car, van, bike, travel and home insurance plus an assortment of other insurance products such as pet, caravan and breakdown cover. Income protection is available through a small number of partners (three at the last count) and involves connecting to their sites to get individual quotes, which is at odds to the usual procedure.

Mortgages can also be found, as can credit cards, utility providers (including telephones and heating cover under this heading), travel extras and various shopping categories. So most things are covered one way or another.

Quotezone is actually a trading style of Seopa Ltd, which is based in Belfast and was set up in 2003 to specialise in search engine optimisation which is how it got its name (SEO). It expanded in 2004 with the addition of two companies in mainland Europe and had a total of fifteen staff by the start of 2009.

The company's main business is online financial comparison solutions. This, according to the Seopa website, helped over 750,000 UK consumers to compare quotations for insurance, as opposed to the half million people or one million drivers quoted on the comparison website itself. ;)

The company does offer its expertise to other businesses and there is "another" comparison site, www.supermarketcom.co.uk, which is 'powered by Quotezone' -- but we can't see anything actually worth looking at. Maybe their SEO training has come in to play as the domain is listed alongside the heavily marketed MoneySupermarket.com brandings. For those not in the UK, there's also supposedly an international site at www.quotezone.com. However, all this does is direct you back to the UK site, so there's not much point to it. †

Quotezone Public Comments Board:*

Remember, the majority of people that look for places to leave comments, do so because they've had a bad experience and want to vent. We suggest you pay attention for common threads in reviews rather than simply weighing up the percentage of bad ones! ;)

25/11/2009 I didnt use quotezones pet insurance system but i did use them for van insurance and managed to save more than 150 pounds compared to my previous company. I can only think that they are cheap, unless i was ripped off last time! Might be a combination of both now that i think of itl Anyway - was the best price i got so ive only got a good word for the zone!

04/11/2009 What a waste of time. Double the amount of questions I've ever seen for a pet insurance quote and then they only returned quotes for 2 pet insurance companies ... and neither of them were willing to return a quote for my dog!! The reason? "don`t offer quotes for pets that are currently suffering or have been examined or treated by a vet for anything other than routine vaccinations or neutering" - my dogs scratches her leg jumping a fence and that precludes her from insurance?!?! And what is with EVERY single page of their website having to open in a new window!
