26/09/2011 No Claims Discount - apparently Saga refuse to provide evidence of how many years' NCD one has to ones next insurer, only referring to the percentage instead. That is of no use to any motor insurer who works on years instead. Also violating Freedom of Information Act? Is that correct? And if so why are they so petty?

06/09/2011 Today i rang saga to tell them my farther had past away and i am a named driver on his policy we now pay £415. To put the policy in my name with 40% discount at 55 years of age and no claims the quote came to £3731 but thay dont know why ......well goodby

02/06/2011 I had to make a rather minor theft claim (of belongings from car) and was not really impressed with the result. I felt I was being treated as a fraud. Had to prove proof of ownership of every item, and in the end received less than half of the value of my claim. No proactive contact from Saga...had to initiate contact on every occasion. As a result I have refused renewal on two car policies and am about to refuse renewal on home insurance. How much was my claim? Less than £500!!

14/01/2011 I have recently been trying to speak to someone at Saga with regard to renewal of my car insurance and home insurance. It took 6 days to get through to someone on an 0800 and then I was told I had to phone another number. Held in a queue for 20 minutes and not answered. I received the renewal information which their letter was dated 17/12/10 on 11/1/11. The people I spoke to were very rude and had a couldn't care less attitude. This is suppose to be a company that deals with the over 50's, well I think they have some very cheap labour being employed and not a customer caring organisation.

30/09/2010 30/09/2010 I am very let down by Saga, and could not recommend them to anyone. They wrote our old Civic off as a total loss following it's theft and minor damage, so we footed the repair bill ourselves. A letter followed to say we neede to obtain a new MOT, to be sent within 8 weeks. No mention was made of the fact we would not be covered in the interim, and in fact I double checked with Acromas the underwriter who said sure, we were covered 3rd party until the 8 week deadline 20th October. I decided to check AGAIN and Saga said no we were not covered even 3rd party. My gripe is the misinformation about a very serious issue, and total lack of communication from Saga to explain it all clearly .I was told today the vague letter was standard

17/09/2010 Like allot of others I received a bill for £47.30 Saga said was for cancellation fees. What a ******* rip off!!!! They are as bad as the banks

07/09/2010 I cancelled my car insurance and was told I would get a refund within one week, A month later I have still not received it , even after numerous calls and e mails, they are still finding excuses ( bank rejecting payment. cheque sent last week etc I think I have lost my money . I just keep hitting a brick wall with my calls.

23/08/2010 saga do not do what they promise to do,i phoned and asked them to transfer my ins onto another car i had purchased, sounds simple doesnt it considering they are an ins company, but no they didnt do this and as a result the police stopped my car and had it inpounded, after being on the phone 3 and 4 times a day to sort it out on a 0845 number by the way they sent the wrong doc out to me, they ans the phone with terrible attitudes and its THEIR fault,i only wished i had looked at reviews before hand because i would def not recommend ins of any sort with these people.

11/08/2010 My dad, rang the SAGA travel insurance call centre on for a quotation, not sure if he could get cover for his wife. The operator wasnt interested in listening to his needs, was very rude to this 70 yr old man and even told him to 'just answer Yes or No' He was so upset he put the phone down. He rang back later and asked for the duty manager, the next day he had a call from someone who said they would investigate and get back to him. 1 week later we are still waiting for an apology, explanation and quote. My dad has since rung the Post Office Insurance, had excellent service from a caring operator and a very competetive price. Very bad service Saga and dreadful follow up action.

07/08/2010 07.08.10 I recently had my car backed into and one week on i am still waiting for Fast Claim part of Saga car insurance to contact me. Claim yes Fast definately not.

06/08/2010 i had fully comp car insurance with saga till i got rear ended by a taxi i should have been given treatment ,found under loss and damage they said no claiming it is under legal cover,so being lied to,this is now with the ombudsman,so saga never again, they have repeatedly lied to me ,both in the amount my car was worth, and claiming an engineer seen my car, then being sent a letter from them, saying sorry ,but they did not do so,i need treatment for my injury ,which they will not pay for,so with no treatment ,my back is getting worse, still waiting for the court now 3 years 9 months in pain every day ,and with no treatment, will get worse, you will get a cheap deal from saga ,as i did but you only find out how good an insurance company is when you

04/08/2010 Me to Saga "I would like you to update my new address so we are legal and upto date" Saga took details, updated address and then at the end said "that will be ten pounds plus 6.31 for change of post code " I am now searching for an insurance company that doesnt rip off customers!

30/07/2010 following a claim in jan 09 following tp reversing into my vehicle, still outstanding. poor and sloppy handling all the way. have since re insured elsewhere.now progressing via ombudsman.

07/06/2010 07/06/10 I have cancelled my car insurance with Saga as I have just sold my car the policy had 2 months left to run so I was expecting a small rebate,I realise they have to charge an administration fee but to my amazement I had a letter saying I owed them 8 pounds with no breakdown of costs I was shocked to say the least!when I rang them they told me there was a cancellation charge of 50 pounds! I nearly fainted! have now requested a breakdown of these extortionate charges and the morale to the story is ask the company before you take out their policy!! won't be purchasing any insurance off them ever again!!

17/04/2010 I wanted to add a driver to my motor insurance with SAGA,I have rang twice both times they tell me they have no one there to help me? they say they will ring me back but never do, if you ring the number for new policys they answer straight away and have plenty of people to take your money, I wont be renewing with SAGA

08/04/2010 My car insurance was up for renewal on 10th January, this was automatically renewed. I decided to change my car and looked around for alternative insurance, I found a more competitive quote and asked SAGA to cancel the policy, I returned the certificate to them, as they couldn't cancel anything without it. Y esterday I received a letter asking for £43, when I asked what this was for I was informed that as I had cancelled the policy mid term a £50 cancellation fee was due. The only way this could be avoided was to let the policy run until its expiry date. This was a bit of a shock to me as I had no idea that they could do this. I have my home insurance with SAGA but come renewal time they will not be getting my business.

12/03/2010 I recently got the renewal quote from Saga for my car insurance. the quote was £671 for an Aui A3 diesel. This up over 20% on last year. I have found exactly the same level of insurance with Aviva at £310!! Last year I changed both my house insurance & travel insurance from Saga to other companies at at 75% savings. In the case of house insurance there are no Saga type occupancy limitations.

09/03/2010 In January I agreed to renewed my motor insurance over the telephone ten days before the actual renewal date. I subsequently decided to take the car off the road and declared SORN to the DVLA. I contacted Saga who cancelled the Direct Debit and asked me to return the Certificate when it arrived.Upon receipt I posted the Certificate back to Saga. All this happened before the renewal date. Two weeks later I received a letter from Saga claiming that they had not received the Certificate. They informed me that as the Certificate was lost I would need to sign an RTA form. They sent it, I signed it and returned it. They then claimed they had not received that either. Two weeks later they have found the form but want £68.09 to cover from renewal

09/03/2010 Saga change the rules to suit themselves, are amazingly good at 'losing' documents, even ones sent recorded delivery, and in my experience, the staff are actively obstructive once they have your money. I am disgusted with thier service, or should i say lack of!! also having trouble getting my no claims record from them.

22/02/2010 Saga advised me of a 97% increase in my buildings insurance with no explanation. When I eventually got through on the phone I spoke to 3 members of staff apparently in a hieracy of seniority but they were all unable to give me a satisfactory explanation. I have cancelled and moved to Santander achieving a big saving and more articulate staff

03/02/2010 What most people in the comments below do not realise is that (as with most insurers) when buying Home isurance from Saga, they are only the broker, and are not responsible for the claims service, this is dealt with by the individual underwriter. This was clearly explained to me when i purchased my policy, and clearly states this on the documents. Dont hold Saga unfairly to blame for something that isnt their fault. i have only had good service.

03/02/2010 I have just recently moved my Home insurance to Saga after having my Motor and Caravan Insurance with them for many years. In response to the majority of the comments on this website, I thought I would add my experiences with Saga. From my very first contact with Saga, I have had the most pleasant experience. The gent on the end of the phone took his time with me, explained in very clear detail the levels of cover that they provide, and really questioned me in a non-intrusive way to guage my needs. The premium, wasnt the most competitive, however, for the cover I was getting, it was a very good deal. I have had to speak to the customer services department on a couple of occasions, and have to say the service there too, was great.

19/01/2010 Remedial work to my kitchen was a long saga of incompetence and lack of care. I complained to SAGA about the problem and recieved a reply stating that it was nothing to do with them as they farm out their home insurance to other companies. I pay my premiums to SAGA, my insurance paperwork is headed SAGA and I had to make my claim through SAGA - but they're not interested when something goes wrong. Needless to say, I will not be renewing my policy with SAGA............

13/01/2010 13/1/10 An accident - not my fault - on 16 Nov last year and an ongoing Saga! of duff information from the word go and still unable to contact the relevant department to find out what is happening as the Third Party are not answering the letters sent out to them. I paid for legal protection - but for whom? Seems if the TP do not answer then it will go on my policy as a "Fault" claim and I'm £250 down in pocket at this point. Plus a new policy sent out showing under the Claims History a brief desciption that bears no resemblence to the actual happenings. Can't wait for this policy to end!!!

13/01/2010 Saga Home contents and Builing Insurance- terrible .I have been waiting for 15 months for them to sort out a collapsed wall on my property. I have phoned, emailed and sent to date 15 faxes on this matter. I cannot get anyone to take ownership of this. they want you to renew with them, but do not want to provide the service you are paying for. I am looking elsewhere for home and buildings insurance

05/01/2010 Saga's renewal letter states 'cancellation will take effect from the date we receive your Certificate of Insurance (CoI) OR from the date you have advised us you wish to cancel, whichever is the sooner' Don't believe it. I was away on a 2 week holiday when the certificate was sent. I phoned 2 days prior to renewal to cancel. They refused to do so and subsequently debited my account. Customer Service attempted to verbally 're-write' the contract stating that 'that only applies if you haven't received the certificate'. Unfortunately as there’s no complaints procedure listed on their documentation I'm hanging on the line waiting to be told an address. I will be following up with the financial ombudsman. Saga's freephone # is 0800 959596.

21/12/2009 Today I telephoned SAGA car insurance at 09.30 because I needed to place my son who is a Paramedic on my insurance as his car was out of order. I was told it was not possible to do this at the moment as there was only a skeleton staff and they would telephone me back at 12.00. 12.00 came and went and in the meantime my husband telephoned his car insurance who managed to get our son onto my husband’s car insurance in five minutes. As a customer I'm not interested in excuses only results and SAGA will not get my business when my car insurance comes up for renewal.

15/11/2009 i think they are wonderful, the other day i rung up, and spoke to a very helpful young lad called jon, he sorted me out everything i needed, my reason for calling, was to get a quote for car insurance and the price beat them crooks at aviva by £103, the gentleman then offered to save me further money on the motor insurance quote, by having a quick home insurance quote, as it was up next week i went ahead, he saved me another £75 on that as RIAS were trying to charge me £354 with only £50,000 contents cover! they are a disgrace, so saga have good prices and wonderful staff, if only the rest of you waste of time charlies sat up and realised!!

13/11/2009 I already have saga contents insurance and decided to combine my home insurance as it is cheaper than my present one. I requested this over three weeks ago and received no documentation. I rung saga and told them and was promised that I would receive it within three to five days. Five days later and I am still waiting. I spoke to a young gentleman called Ollie who told me he could do nothing other than request the documentation again as it was probably lost in the post. TWICE!!!! What poor service. Presumably if I were to make a claim that would be lost too. I shall be cancelling before the Insurance is even in place!

13/11/2009 My vehicle renewal quote from SAGA showed a significant increase - approaching 50%.I rang them to query this and was told market forces dictated a rise of between 15% and 40% I pointed out to them the SAGA price guarantee and was sked to provide details and someone would contact me. I faxed them a number of cheaper quotes with a covering letter explaining I wasn't after the cheapest Insurance, but one that was realistically priced. No-one contacted me, and I rang twice further, telling them if they were keen to retain my custom they should ring them. Still nothing, so I went elsewhere, getting better cover, less excess and a saving of £234 to boot. SAGA are RUBBISH. Price Guarantee? More like a breach of advertising standards.

12/11/2009 I took out motor cycle insurance through Saga 06.11.09. After several calls to the helpdesk I still (12.11.09) do not have the policy documents, schedule or certificate. I have been promised that the documents had been posted, but subsequently have also been promised that they would be faxed (not arrived), posted by Recorded delivery (not arrived) and even following day guaranteed delivery (not arrived). At my latest attempt to speak to the help desk (07.11.09) I gave up after being on hold for 36 minutes. Today (12.11.09) I have sent a letter by recorded delivery to Saga registered office in Folkestone, in an attempt to get my insurance documents. I regret changing insurer to save £17.00.

16/10/2009 My car policy was bumped up £100 for no explanation. Saga only offer 60% for 5 years nc bonus most companies give more for moe than 5. Check at the new renewal stage. Over 60 does not equate to stupid.

15/10/2009 I had motor insurance for a year and a half with saga, but because I am self employed and my business suffering to to recession, I had to sell my car. It took 2 and a half week for saga to cancel my insurance and then sent me a bill for almost 3 months premims. On the bill it said nothing except pay within 7 days. So I rang to find out what this was for and they said £50 was for the canellation fee. I looked in all my paperwork booklets etc. and could find nothing stating the amount of cancellation fee. I complained about the lack of information, and I would never buy anything from saga again.

14/10/2009 I have just noticed that Saga have renewed my motor insurance without my authorisation. I sent an enquiry by email to Saga prior to the cover with them expiring and, as I had received no reply, I arranged better and cheaper cover with a different provider. I have written to Saga and my credit card provider as I have no intention of making a payment for anything I have not authorised.

05/10/2009 I have just had a new yearly premium from SAGA for £805 for house and buildings contents, up almost £100 on last year. I Managed to find scores of cheaper quotes, cheapest being £233!! Is this how they reward existing loyal customers?! Our car insurance is with them too and out of curiosity I looked up comparison quotes for that too. Half the price elsewhere!!

18/09/2009 My parents travel insurance is with Saga - it was renewed annually for several years, but I think never again. My dad had a heart attack 3 weeks ago in Spain, and was taken to a public hospital-he got excellent treatment and was discharged a week after the attack along with his perscriptions (so no charge to Saga for anything). Saga had called the hospital to say he would fly home immediately with a doctor, and did not re-inform the hospital when it was agreed he stayed and rested for 7-10 days before flying-on medical advice. Now, after a week of talking to Saga, they tell me that they need another cert from a doctor to say he can fly home without medical assistance. He should be flying home on Monday - it's now Friday afternoon

12/09/2009 Saga are very good at renewing insurance without authority and very very good at direct debits - shame they are not so good at taking instructions not to renew!! I would like to give some positive feedback but cannot.

12/08/2009 SAGA's motor insurance quote was reasonable. I accepted. I declared a stainless exhaust (which bumped up the premium by £75) and an lpg conversion. They asked me for a copy of the installation of competence which I sent. They then wrote saying that the certificate was unacceptable and I needed to go to their "approved" converters 70miles away. 140mile round trip and the cost of the new certificate. My existing certificate was more than adequate so this was an unreasonable proviso. I rang to say I wasn't going ahead. Wait for it-- they'd already debited my credit card on the 4th for a policy that wasn't due until the 19th. I asked them to credit it immediately but they "couldn't". BEWARE, they chrge you immediately then mess you around.

11/08/2009 Please be aware that if you purchase insurance online with Saga and make an error due to a poor web layout, you can't ask for your money back and re-apply after 14 day cooling off period - systems do not allow you to apply for another 30 days. So make sure everything is correct especially within areas such as paying monthly or annual premiums, as it defaults to annual upfront

30/01/2009 To say SAGA deal with the over 50's the stress they have put us through is appalling. We are now entering our fifth week in a motel following a house fire. We found a local rental to stay in whilst repairs commence at our bungalow. It has taken 3 wks to get a payment from insurers to agent to enable us to move into the house, they now cannot deliver a furniture package that was ordered for us until next week. I have issued a complaint to Customer Relations and things seemed to move as I was told Senior Mgmt had become involved. That was Tues now we are at Fri and no one has been in touch. There is no communication between depts at all.

27/10/2008 I was looking for a quote for pet insurance (yes I know! who'd have thought saga did pet insurance?), and found Saga's online form very simple and easy to complete. Information about their privacy policy was highly visible, which is good. They also have handy little information boxes for each form field, giving a further explanation of what's required. They would only provide a basic level of insurance for my cat because he's over 8 years old, which seemed a bit ironic for Saga! Given that their quote was just for basic cover, their quote wasn't reasonable - I can get cheaper cover elsewhere.

29/09/2008 A little strange. I was thinking of switching insurers as one promised to beat my Saga renewal quote by £50 but when I asked Saga to send me out a copy of my no claims bonus allowance they said that they "don't do that". Of course, the other insurer said they couldn't give me the discounted rate without a letter from my last insurer stating the no claims discount I was owed. My grandson says that they have to issue the letter but they won't talk to him so I'm at a bit of a loss what to do now.
